Finding A Good Electrician

By: Verne Eliasov

Finding a good electrician can be a reasonably hard task. The first thing we do is source an electrician by word of mouth. Asking our family and friends is generally the first step we take as individuals to source some reputable contacts. We can trust family and friends, right? This is a great initial start in finding reputable electricians. We can also ask friends and family for their experiences with the electricians they have used over the past few months or so. This will help us narrow down our list to only a few contacts. Now we can start our research.

When contacting the electrician companies on your list, there are certain aspects you need to look out for. Firstly, you want an electrician that can handle the job. Electricians that need to sub contract other companies to do the job is generally not a good aspect and preferably stay clear of these types as it could end up costing you a fortune. Obviously you are looking for the best electrician to do the job, asking about the services they offer is a sure win in finding the best electrician for the job. Most Electricians should have an online website, this will make it easier for you to make a judgement as ALL their services and skills should and will be presented on their site. There should also be contact details on their site so if any questions you have can be put forth in an email so you can a more detailed response.

A good electrician will never diagnose a problem over the phone. Electricians that generally do are ones you should stay clear of. Each problem varies so a good electrician who knows what he is doing will always come out and assess the problem as well as explaining to you what the problem is, why there is a problem and how they can sort the problem out. This will ensure that the job will get done properly from the start and this will also ensure once the initial problem is taken care of, it won’t cause further issues which could end up costing you more money. Plus this will give you and the electrician a better estimate on the timing of the job as well as giving you a better indication of the costs involved. It is probably best to get more than one quotation on the job, this will give an area to see whether or not you are being taken for a ride or you are getting bad quality workmanship. The cheapest quotation isn’t generally the best quote to go for, neither is the highest. Finding middle ground between the quotations is generally the safer root to go for.

A good electrician can be hard to find, but if you research and investigate the options you have available, this will definitely aid in finding the right electrician for the job. Just one thing to always remember, Cheaper isn’t necessarily the better option.
