The USB Stick- Man’s Friendly Storage Device

By: Usb Stick Miller

The advent of technology has given rise to so many different innovations. One of the greatest tool man has ever invented is the computer. The computer has helped almost all of the world’s population. The ingenuity it has given us has captured the minds of knowledge seekers and has enticed men to create more machines be it big or small. The computer can be found in almost every household. Through the computer, we can see the world and store pictures or articles and other sorts of data on it. It serves as a great friend to man. With the computer comes its partner for memory storage, the USB stick.

The USB (universal serial bus) flash drive or memory stick is a computer accessory. Along with the computer, the flash drive is also a very helpful innovation that has served our data storage needs. Unlike the floppy disk or the diskette, the flash drive has more advantages. Compared to the diskette, it is impermeable to scratches and dust. The flash drive is also robust and is very apt in storing data from one place to another. The great thing about the flash drive is that it is always readily at hand. With the small design that goes with the USB stick you can simply attach a sling with it and hang it on your neck or even put it on your pocket. Another great thing about the flash drive is that it can store more compact data than the floppy disk or rewritable cd’s. When compared to hard drives, the USB flash drive uses little power and has no fragile moving parts.

The USB flash drive has many important uses. It is most importantly used as a personal data transport. It stores personal files such as pictures, videos, and documents. With the flash drive’s use of biometrics and encryption, data and information security remains an important use of this device. The USB stick’s use is very evident among system and network administrators who load them with information used for troubleshooting, recovery, and maintenance. This device is a useful means for transferring recovery and antivirus software to infected personal computers. Its handy feature has replaced the need to carry diskettes or CD ROMs for reinstalling or updating a system. Another excellent use of the USB flash drive is that it can carry application that run on a host computer without the need for installation. Some flash drives also come with an audio player or an mp3 player.

Like the computer, the USB stick is also composed of several little parts. It has typically four very important parts. The first and most visible part is the USB connector. This presents an interface to the host computer. The USB mass storage controller device is another part located inside the device. It implements the USB host controller. The flash memory is the part that holds the information or stores the data. The last part that is of great importance is the crystal oscillator. This produces the device’s clock signal that coordinates the actions of the device. It also controls the flash drive’s data production through a loop. With these parts, the USB stick can definitely function as a useful device for both man and computer!
